Asana CLI
Asana CLI is an unofficial command-line tool for Asana. Use it to read tasks, work with projects and make changes from a terminal, a script or a coding agent.
Free and open source · Linux, macOS and Windows
# Read a project’s tasks
$ asana task list \
--project "Launch Plan" --json
# Preview an update
$ asana task update 1234567890123456 \
--name "Review launch copy" --dry-run
Example commands. Dry runs can still read Asana.
Install it
On macOS or Linux, this script downloads the latest release and checks its checksum. Read the script before running it.
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/vincentsch/asana-cli/main/install.sh | bash
Prefer Go? Build the pinned release with Go 1.22.2 or newer.
go install github.com/vincentsch/asana-cli/cmd/[email protected]
Windows binaries and builds for amd64 and arm64 are on the release page .
Log in and read your first project
Create a Personal Access Token in Asana’s developer console, then run:
asana login
asana workspace list
asana project list --workspace "Company"
asana task list --project "Launch Plan" --json
Replace the example names with your workspace and project. Start with list commands; task search uses Asana’s premium search API.
Check a write before running it
Supported write commands accept --dry-run. You can preview
an update before changing a task.
asana task update 1234567890123456 \
--name "Review launch checklist" --dry-run
Dry runs can still read Asana to resolve names or validate inputs. Destructive commands require explicit confirmation.
Give your agent output it can read
Use --json for stable structured output. Commands also
support text tables, plain output, jq filters and templates. Use a task
or project GID when a name is ambiguous.
asana task list --project-gid 1234567890123456 --json
asana task create "Review launch checklist" \
--project "Launch Plan" --assignee me

asana task update --help in your terminal.
A few things to know
This is a pre-1.0 community project. Your token controls what the CLI can access. The CLI does not grant extra Asana permissions or bypass plan limits. Keep tokens out of prompts, shared logs and committed files.
The directory and Asana CLI have the same maintainer. Asana CLI is not made by or endorsed by Asana, Inc.
