Asana CLI / Getting started

Asana CLI docs

Install the CLI, log in with an Asana token and list your workspaces. You can make your first request without changing anything.

1. Install the release

See installation options for your platform . Then check the binary:

asana --version

2. Log in

Create a Personal Access Token at app.asana.com/0/my-apps. Run this command and enter your token when asked:

asana login

For a script, set ASANA_TOKEN in its private environment. It takes precedence over the saved login. Do not commit it to your repository.

3. Find the project

asana workspace list
asana project list --workspace "Company"
asana task list --project "Launch Plan" --json

Use your own workspace and project names. If a name matches more than one resource, use its GID with the corresponding --workspace-gid or --project-gid flag.

4. Preview a change

asana task update 1234567890123456 \
  --name "Review launch checklist" --dry-run

This previews the update. It can make read requests to resolve names and validate inputs. Run it again without --dry-run when you want to apply the update.
